Raiders roll past Arlington

? The Lawrence Raiders rallied from a three-run deficit in the fourth inning for a run-rule 14-6 victory against Arlington, Texas, on Thursday night in the Enid Fourth of July Invitational baseball tournament.

The Raiders trailed 6-3 when they came to bat in the bottom of the fourth. But they scored once in the fourth, then exploded for six runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Kyle Unruh (2-0), who entered the game in the third inning, recorded the victory.

“He got stronger the longer he pitched,” Raiders coach Carl Brooks said.

Matt Berner, Derek Bailey, Blake Dickson and Mike Morrell all doubled for the Raiders, who outhit Arlington 14-6.

“We’ve been hitting the ball like this for about eight games,” Brooks said. “We got behind and just battled back and had two huge innings. We hit the ball in a very timely manner.”

The Raiders will play their second game in the tournament against Lawton, Okla., at 5:30 p.m. today. Their victory Thursday guaranteed them a spot in the semifinals on Saturday.
