Softball Champs: Lawrence’s Phenix 14-under girls fast pitch softball team recently won the Wahoo (Neb.) Diamond Sports Invitational. Players are Emily Leiker, Cortney Sostarich, Livi Abney, Brooke Abney, Karen Spence, Kayla Nolte, Kim Gilges, Jessica Kraus, Jenna Brantley, Trisha Dunham and Mariah Riling. Coaches are Mike Riling, Kathy Gilges, Keith Spence and Leo Leiker.

SWJS Hoops Camp: The Southwest Junior High boys basketball camp for players in grades 6-9 will be July 8-12. For information, call Mike Lewis at 838-9964.

Golf Club Results: The leading scores for the Jayhawk Golf Club at Alvamar on June 29 for gross were: Allan Stearns 68, Randy Conroy 73, Mike Grosdidier 75 and Ben Overman 77. The leading net scores were turned in by Chris Anderson 70, Randy Gebhards 71, and Bob Clark and Steve Cross 72.

Lawrence High Girls Basketball Camp: The Lawrence High girls basketball camp will run July 15-19 at LHS. Fourth- through sixth-grade boys and girls will participate from 8-10 a.m. Junior high girls work from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and the high school girls session runs 6-9 p.m. For information, contact Kristin Mallory at 842-3342.

Legends Win Qualifier: The Lawrence Legends girls softball team won the AFA 16-Under Classs A National Qualifying Tournament on June 22-23 in Dodge City and earned a berth to the AFA National in Rockford, Ill. The Legends earlier qualified for the USSSA Nationals in Canton, Mich., at a qualifer in Manhattan.

Raiders Alumni Game Slated: The Lawrence Raiders alumni game will be 7 p.m. July 12 at Ice Field. The annual event is open to any former players in the American Legion or Breakfast Optimist programs. Two games have tentatively been scheduled. The first, most likely a three-inning outing, will be for the older players. The second game, likely seven innings, will feature recent players against the current Raider squad. Anyone interested should call Carl Brooks at 594-3921, Lee Ice at 832-7940 or Tim Hill at 842-7262.
