Raiders hammer Tigers

? The Lawrence Raiders’ bats continue to sizzle.

“I have coached baseball a long time. I have never had a team this hot,” Raiders coach Carl Brooks said after his players slammed 14 hits in an 11-2 American Legion baseball victory over the Blue Valley Tigers on Monday.

The Raiders have scored 81 runs off 82 hits during the last six games, all victories.

“A week ago at this time we were not doing much offensively. All of a sudden bam, we are on fire,” Brooks said.

Derek Bailey went 2-for-3 with a triple, double and two RBIs. Cassidy Thompson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Matt Berner 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Tommy Mangino and Aaron Madill each had two hits. Troy Wingert had a hit and three RBIs.

Kyle McManness struck out four and walked two in six innings as he and Wingert combined on a five-hitter.

The Raiders (19-11) travel to a wood bat tournament in Enid, Okla., on Wednesday.
