Melvin J. ‘Mutt’ Grandstaff

Services for Melvin J. “Mutt” Grandstaff, 84, Perry, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Barnett Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry.

Mr. Grandstaff died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Lexington Park Nursing Home, Topeka.

He was born May 29, 1918, in Winona, Mo., the son of Edward and Maude (Rimby) Grandstaff. He had lived in Perry most of his life.

Mr. Grandstaff was an inventory controller for Shrake Electric, Topeka, for 20 years. He had formerly worked at Sheahan and Degan Electric Co., Topeka.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post No. 142, Perry.

He married Iva “Agnes” Williamson on Oct. 13, 1942, in Lawrence. She died Dec. 6, 1994.

Other survivors include a brother, Delbert “Gene” Grandstaff, Perry; and three sisters, Velma Fowler, Kansas City, Mo., Ruby Powers, Hiawatha, and Ruth Cowe.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
