To the editor:
Where does America hold its pride? For me, even at the age of 17, the answer is obvious. We have dedicated a statue to it and made all of our laws by it. America's pride is in her freedom. We do everything to protect this freedom, but how far should we extend it?
Our freedom has allowed us to aid other countries when in trouble. Whenever a war starts on the other side of the world, we jump to join it. We, the free people of America, have made these choices. Yet Americans seem blind to the needed help right in front of them. There is a war going on in their own country that they are either unaware of or unwilling to fight against: the war on the unborn. Every day in the news we see ways in which innocent people are killed for no reason. We feel pity for the many helpless people killed in countries all over the world. But there are people more helpless and innocent still: the unborn. We possess the freedom to stop this killing.
Although we are free, our freedom is not without check. We all have a conscience and a natural sense of right and wrong. We all know of the ancient words: "Thou shalt not kill." This law has been around for a long time in countries all over the world. We have no right to violate that law now.
Where is our pride when we break our laws? We are doing the very thing we fight against in other countries killing the helpless, the innocent.
