Newton Services for Paul A. Hardman II, 80, North Newton, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Newton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Newton.
Mr. Hardman died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Veterans Nursing Home, Wichita.
He was born April 11, 1921, in Drumright, Okla., the son of Paul A. and Doris T. (Peters) Hardman. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1939, then went to Kansas University to study engineering. He played both defensive center and offensive end on the KU football team from 1940 to 1942. He completed his degree in 1947 after serving in World War II.
Mr. Hardman was a World War II, Korean War and Vietnam veteran, retiring as a colonel in 1972. After retirement, he continued to work for the Army as a civilian engineer.
He competed in the handball world semi-finals at 70 years old. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and the Newton American Legion.
He married Norma V. Ashlock on April 25, 1943. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Patrick C., Monte Rio, Calif., Thomas, Wichita, and Paul III, Lawrence; a daughter, Terry Hardman, Andover; a sister, Joan Renner, Denver; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four great-great-grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
A son, Timothy, died earlier.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, where the family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Guadalupe Building Fund or to Central Homecare and Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, 215 N. Main, Newton 67114.
