Jefferson County North Roundup: McLouth claims third

— McLouth High's girls basketball team bolted to a big lead early, then held on for a 54-48 victory Saturday over Jefferson County North to take third place in the JCN tournament.

The Bulldogs led 17-3 after the first quarter and 27-15 by halftime before JCN trimmed the difference to 41-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

Jeff West had two players score 21 points apiece Rachel Heston and Laci Heller in winning the championship game, 67-53, over Valley Falls.

McLouth, which had seven different players score, was led by Courtney Edmonds' game-high 20 points.

Jeff North has three players score in double figures Gina Hoffman (18 points), Carrie Keirns (13) and Stephanie Nichols (10) in the setback.

Atchison Mt. Scholastica 61, Oskaloosa 38

Oskaloosa was held to just 11 points in the first half four in the second quarter in falling to Mt. Scholastica. Erika Houk led the Bears (4-8) with 11 points. Oskie will play at Eudora on Tuesday.

Shannon Wilson erupted for a game-high 27 points as Perry-Lecompton coasted to a seventh-place finish. Wilson drained 11 field goals including a three-pointer and was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. The Kaws (4-8) will play Tuesday at Kansas City Piper.
