Community theater offers acting classes

Lawrence Community Theatre, 1501 N.H., is offering two, six-week adult acting classes starting in February.

An improvisational class will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays. The sessions will introduce students to such basic ideas as accepting and blocking, storytelling and the use of body language. Uta Walter will coach the class.

A beginning acting class will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and be taught by Victoria Hartman. The class will focus on the basics of acting and progress to monologue and scene work.

The fee is $40 for theater members and $45 for nonmembers. To enroll, call the theater office at 843-7469.

Nordic Choir coming to Topeka

Topeka The Luther College Nordic Choir will perform at 7 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, 3033 S.W. MacVicar Ave.

The Nordic Choir will perform an a cappella program of sacred and secular pieces, including works by Heinrich Schutz, J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn and F. Melius Christiansen.

The event is free and open to the public. However, donations will be collected.
