LMH receives grant for pediatric unit chairs

Lawrence Memorial Hospital's Endowment Assn. recently received a $5,000 grant from the Douglas County Community Foundation to buy recliners for the LMH pediatric unit.

A recent fund-raising campaign generated enough money to make structural changes to the unit, but not enough funds to buy recliners.

"Recliners aren't a luxury. They're a necessity in the pediatric unit because most parents spend 24 hours a day with their children while they're in the hospital. These recliners allow parents to rest comfortably in a sick child's room," said Kathy Clausing, the endowment association's chief development officer.

"This generous donation will allow us to better serve our community's pediatric patients and keep their parents comfortable during their visit," Gene Meyer, LMH chief executive officer and president, said.

Senior Services board elects new officers

The Douglas County Senior Services board of directors named its officers for 2002 at its annual meeting.

Chairman Stuart Dorsey and Vice Chairman Grant Goodman will remain in those posts for 2002. Evelyn Swartz will be the new secretary, filling a position left vacant last year. The board's financial chairman will be Victor E. Harrod, who is replacing exiting financial chairman Robert LeGresley.

Harrod also will become a new board member for 2002. He and Cheryl Holcomb will be the only new members of the 15-person board, said Senior Services Executive Director Jessie Ann Lusher.

City Commissioner Jim Henry and County Commissioner Bob Johnson were guest speakers at the meeting, which was held Tuesday at the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vt.
