Here are some volunteer opportunities in Douglas County:

Headquarters Counseling Center. Volunteers needed to train as crisis counselors. Next volunteer orientation is Sunday. Call 841-2345 for details.

Special Olympics. Volunteers to staff basketball practices for athletes with disabilities. Practices are Monday evenings, now through March. Call Chris Koehler, 864-5462.

Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center. Caring people needed for Compeer program. Volunteers are matched with a client who has experienced social isolation and needs to make friends and get out in the community. Call Eryn Vander-Zwaag, 843-9192.

Douglas County AIDS Project. Volunteer training from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 2; lunch provided. Call 843-0040 to sign up or for information.

Therapeutic Horseback Riding Instruction of Lawrence. Volunteers to help provide horseback riding therapy classes for children and adults with disabilities. Volunteer training session on March 2. Contact Leann Williams, 841-9527 or landsinc2@aol.com.
