Pennsylvania: Family found dead; Teen-age son charged

A teen-age boy shot his parents and two sisters to death, then drove to West Virginia where he was taken into custody after a traffic stop, police said.

The parents and children were found dead Friday in their home. Steven Pannebaker, 16, was apprehended later in West Virginia, about 400 miles from the home in Maze. He was charged with four counts of homicide. Investigators had not established a motive.

Authorities identified the victims as Mark Pannebaker, 37; his wife, Marcella, 35; and sisters Ellena, 13; and Amanda, 10.

Police said a rifle, shotgun and a third firearm were found in the family's sedan after the teen was stopped for speeding. "The boy said he had been hunting," West Virginia Senior Trooper J.C. Powers said.

The shootings occurred between 10 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday, police estimated.

Maryland: Police find 48 weapons in bus driver's house

A Pennsylvania school bus driver accused of taking 13 children on a curious, 115-mile detour Thursday to Maryland with a loaded rifle by his side appeared in court on kidnapping charges Friday and told a magistrate he was "not totally involved" in the episode.

Otto Nuss, 63, agreed to be transferred to Philadelphia, where a hearing was scheduled for later in the day.

Police disclosed that they found 48 weapons in Nuss' house, including three dozen handguns, and 75 rounds of ammunition on the bus.

During a federal hearing in in Greenbelt, U.S. Magistrate Charles Day asked Nuss if he suffers from mental illness.

Nuss replied, "No sir, I'm not insane."

When Day asked Nuss if he understood the case against him, he said: "I'm not totally involved in it, is what I'm saying."
