Washington fan

The late Jennifer Trapp (one of many Kansas women to play for KU) once expressed her disappointment when the team had a big win but the story was not on 1C. I once talked to Chuck Woodling and asked him why there wasn't more front-page coverage and his response was that they needed to "go deeper into the NCAAs." Yet this year is all front-page stuff!

I would like to ask Mr. Powell if he attended many of those games in the '90s when more fan support could have helped the team to even better records. The Lawrence (and university) community support during those years was sadly lacking. The recruiting that Chuck Woodling refers to was fine then, and (with Pam DeCosta and Lynette Woodard helping) will continue to be fine.

Chuck Woodling's reference to the assistant coaches being concerned about their jobs was totally uncalled for, as was Mr. Powell in asking for Coach Washington's job. Marian Washington has too much class to agree to letting people go in order to keep her job and nobody has given more of himself or herself to KU than Marian Washington. If Al Bohl even mentions letting her go, he'll have my shredded KU diploma on his desk and I will no longer support any KU endeavor. After some of his recent articles, maybe Chuck Woodling should be concerned about the status of his job.

Robert L. Lyons,

Lawrence
