To the editor:
Every January the Lawrence Region Antique Auto Club Assn. makes donations to a variety of community agencies, one being the Watkins Community Museum of History. The LRAACA has its monthly meetings from October through May at the museum. We feel the museum is a valuable asset to our community. The historic displays and the various programs are enjoyed by both local residents and visitors to our area.
This year our donation to the museum was less than usual. Our membership strongly disagrees with the manner in which Mr. Jansen's and Ms. Sweets' job titles and salaries are handled. Jansen's knowledge of Lawrence history and his extraordinary story-telling abilities are legend. Surely members of the board could have handled the situation less dramatically in actions and more professionally to the parties concerned.
While we support the museum, the LRAACA also decided to show support for Jansen and Sweets by making a donation to each of them. We hope there can be an amicable solution for both parties involved and the museum staff can retain their well-known reputations.
Jack Todd,
LRAACA president
