Did I understand correctly? The city of Lawrence is going from apartment to apartment to inspect and make sure that no one is breaking the law by having too many people living in one apartment?
Is this true? But it can't be. No one is that stupid to allow such a thing to happen. Surely no one would be brazen enough, to abuse my freedom in such a manner.
Why, next thing you now, there will be searches for drugs or weapons and searches for any other thing they can search for. Or is that what you are really doing?
What happened to innocent until proven guilty? If you suspect someone of breaking a law, you investigate that person. Not inspect every person to make sure they are not breaking the law.
Next thing you know, with this kind of logic. There will be search stations on every corner. Just to make sure we don't have anything illegal on our person. After all it could be, just maybe, possibly, we don't know for sure but want to make sure. This person just might be breaking the law, so we better search him. Checkpoints like the Germans had; you know the kind.
You know, I have a friend overseas right now, as many of us do, who is protecting my freedom. Maybe he should be here protecting my freedom. Beware the enemy is not without the camp; he is within.
Ralph Gordon,
Lawrence
