Higher education: Chemical society awards fellowship to KU student

Aaron Wrobleski, a Kansas University graduate student in medicinal chemistry, has been awarded a fellowship in organic chemistry from the American Chemical Society.

Wrobleski is the first student in medicinal chemistry to receive the honor in the fellowship's 19-year history. The one-year award is worth $19,000.

Wrobleski was recognized for his work in synthesizing molecules isolated from natural resources. His most recent project involves analyzing a chemical structure from poison-dart frogs that could lead to drug therapies.

He and the other 16 fellowship recipients will present their work at the 2003 National Organic Symposium in Indianapolis.
