Jason Roland Smith, a recording artist and award-winning tuba player, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in room 130 in Murphy Hall at Kansas University.
Smith is assistant professor of music at Ohio University, where he teaches euphonium, tuba and music theory.
He plays tuba with Ohio Brass. He has recorded with the Cincinnati Philharmonic Orchestra and performed with the Lucca Festival Orchestra in Italy.
He is completing his doctorate of music arts degree at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
Michele Grossman accompanies on the piano. She won the Indiana University Mozart Festival Competition, the Indiana University Concerto Competition and the Des Moines Guild Young Artist Piano Competition.
The program includes "Larghetto and Allegro" by George Frideric Handel; "Elegie, Opus 3, No. 1" by Sergi Rachmaninoff; "Sonata No. 2" by Alec Wilder; "Three Easy Pieces" by Paul Hindemith; and "Sonata" by Bruce Broughton.
The concert is free and open to the public.
