Top 25 Men: Bulldogs take bite out of No. 2 Gators

Jarvis Hayes scored 23 points and twin brother Jonas had 13 to help the Bulldogs knock off No. 2 Florida, 84-79, Saturday, ending the Gators' school-record 14-game winning streak.

Georgia (15-3, 4-1 SEC) got back on the winning side three days after two players, starting center Steve Thomas and reserve guard Tony Cole, were suspended while the school investigates a rape case the two were allegedly involved.

"It was good just getting away from Athens, just getting out of the state of Georgia for a while," Jarvis Hayes said. "The whole situation there it's been pretty tough on us."

Fred Gibson, a two-sport standout who reneged on an oral commitment to play football for Florida, hit all four of his free throws down the stretch to help Georgia seal the victory.

The Gators (15-2, 4-1) lost at home for the first time since Georgia beat them 75-72 last season, a string of 15 games. The Bulldogs improved to 8-2 away from home this season.

The Bulldogs trailed 67-62 when the Hayes twins went on a shooting tear, sandwiching two baskets apiece around another 17-footer by Ezra Williams to give Georgia a 73-67 lead.

Gibson (13 points) followed a missed free throw by Udonis Haslem with a thundering, breakaway slam for an eight-point lead, then the Bulldogs went 9-for-10 from the foul line to hang on.

No. 14 Wake Forest 80

Durham, N.C. Jason Williams had 23 points, Dahntay Jones added 22 and Carlos Boozer had 20 and 18 rebounds as Duke posted its fourth straight ACC win in convincing fashion since a loss to Florida State on Jan. 6. Duke (16-1, 5-1) put up the highest point total of the season against Wake (13-5, 3-2).

No. 7 Cincinnati 77, Louisville 50

Cincinnati Steve Logan scored 21 points and led an early run as Cincinnati (17-1, 5-0 Conference USA) extended the nation's longest winning streak to 17 games. Louisville (11-5, 2-3) missed 24 of its first 28 shots. Logan had nine points in a 17-0 burst in the first half.

Tennessee 66,

No. 8 Syracuse 62

Knoxville, Tenn. Jenis Grindstaff scored a career-high 18 points, including two free throws in the final seconds, to lead Tennessee (7-9). The loss ended a seven-game winning streak for Syracuse (16-3).

No. 15 Arizona 96,

No. 9 UCLA 86

Tucson, Ariz. Arizona overcame UCLA's school record 17 three-pointers with an amazing comeback as the Wildcats rallied from 20 points down in the second half to win.

Trailing 73-53 with 13:37 to play, the Wildcats (13-4, 6-2 Pac-10) outscored the Bruins UCLA (13-4, 5-2) 43-13 the rest of the way.

No. 12 Kentucky 72, Notre Dame 65

South Bend, Ind. Keith Bogans broke out of a four-game slump, scoring 23 points to lead Kentucky. Bogans finished 8-of-12, including 5-of-8 from three-point range. Kentucky (12-4) has won eight straight against the Irish (12-5).

No. 13 Gonzaga 94, Loyola Marymount 60

Los Angeles Dan Dickau scored all of his 34 points in the first half, including a school-record nine three-pointers, as Gonzaga coasted. The Bulldogs, who had their 12-game winning streak snapped at Pepperdine on Friday, beat Loyola Marymount for the 13th straight time. Greg Lakey scored 18 for Loyola Marymount (9-9, 2-2 WCC).

No. 16 Alabama 85, Mississippi St. 73

Tuscaloosa, Ala. Erwin Dudley scored 24 points and Rod Grizzard had 22 as Alabama (16-3, 4-1 SEC) beat Mississippi State (15-4, 2-3). Mississippi State pounded it inside to Mario Austin, who had 19 points. Maurice Williams added 15 points and four second-half steals for Alabama.

Northwestern 63,

No. 17 Iowa 50

Evanston, Ill. Winston Blake scored 16 points and Jitim Young added 13 for Northwestern. The Wildcats (10-6, 2-3 Big Ten), who never trailed and led by as many 20 points.

No. 18 USC 81,

Arizona State 73

Tempe, Ariz. Sam Clancy had 20 points and 12 rebounds as USC gained a split on trip to the desert. The Trojans (14-3, 6-1 Pac-10) had won nine straight before a 97-80 loss at Arizona on Thursday, but they kept a share of the conference lead by beating the Sun Devils (10-7, 3-5). Brandon Granville had 21 points for USC.

No. 19 Stanford 105, Washington 60

Stanford, Calif. Casey Jacobsen scored 21 points and Curtis Borchardt added 19 as Stanford remained undefeated at home. Julius Barnes added 15 points as the Cardinal (11-4, 4-2 Pac-10) extended their winning streak over the Huskies (7-11, 1-7) to nine straight.

No. 23 Oregon 63, Oregon State 51

Corvallis, Ore. Frederick Jones scored 16 points and Robert Johnson had 11 rebounds as Oregon stayed tied for first place with USC in the Pac-10. The Ducks (14-4, 6-1) have won 10 of 11.

No. 24 Miami 102, Providence 96, OT

Miami Darius Rice scored 32 points, including a basket near the end of regulation, and John Salmons and James Jones added 23 each, helping Miami rally to an overtime victory. The Hurricanes (17-2, 4-2 Big East) overcame an 11-point halftime deficit and won for the second straight game in overtime.

Ohio State 73,

No. 25 Indiana 67

Columbus, Ohio Brian Brown had 26 points and freshman Terence Dials scored 10 consecutive points down the stretch as Ohio State took over first place in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes (14-2, 5-0) won their eighth game in a row and their 12th consecutive conference game. Ohio State also improved to 10-2 against ranked teams in Value City Arena. Brown hit four free throws in the final 24.2 seconds to hold off IU (11-6, 4-1).
