Kansas City, Mo. — Kansas University senior women's basketball player Nikki White and Free State High sophomore Mary Owen have been tapped to receive awards at the Galyan's Women's Sports Awards Celebration next month.
White, who has overcome eight surgeries on the same leg the last four years, has been selected to receive the Aventis Pharmaceuticals Courage Award. Owen, who has overcome a birth defect while participating on the Firebirds' swimming team, will be awarded the Saint Luke's Shawnee Mission Health System Physically Challenged Athlete Award.
