Cub Scout Pack 3370, chartered to Deerfield School, will have its annual Pinewood Derby contest today. The event will begin at 8 a.m. in the cafeteria of Deerfield School. More than 50 cars will be judged on speed and design.





Cub Scout Pack 3077, chartered to Sunflower School's PTO, had its annual Pinewood Derby Jan. 12 at the school. Thirty-one Cub Scouts participated in the event. Ryan Abbott received first place with a perfect record of 30 wins and no losses.

Alex Lawson and Ben Muiller finished with records of 28-2, but Alex captured second place in a head-to-head race against Ben. Calvin Morgan received an award for the Best Overall Design, and Daniel Chance received an award for the Most Original Design.





Boy Scouts from Troop 65, chartered to the Baldwin City Rotary Club, attended a one-day woodcarving workshop on Dec. 1 at the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation. After the workshop, they camped at the Old Lake in Baldwin.

Scouts who attended were: Kenton Shuck, Russell Wright, Mark Westgate, Jordan Hanson, Kirsten Shuck, Tyler Waltz, Daren Gratts, Cameron Scruggs, Billy Ojanguren, Evan Wilson, Aaron Beuthien and Matt Davis. Adult leaders who participated were: Marin Pressgrove, scoutmaster; Tom Beuthien; and Mark Shuck.

Evan Wilson and Kenton Shuck received awards for their carvings, and Mark Shuck was awarded a Dutch oven for his carving entry in the leader competition.





Boy Scout Troop 52 will have its second annual pancake feed from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the First United Methodist Church, 948 Vt. The cost is $4 for a regular meal and $2 for a child's meal. Proceeds will be used for summer camp and to purchase equipment.





Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, took its annual ski trip Jan. 12 to Snowcreek in Weston, Mo. Many scouts worked on their snow sports merit badge. Scouts who attended were: Will Sharp, Mason McCurdy, Jack Berkowitz, Bill Berkowitz, Henry Reiske, Justin Deaver, Evan Tedlock, Philip Gilreath, Wes Hinkle, Josh Cosgrove, Tristan Wagner, Evan Cloar, Levi Klundt, Roland Klundt, Todd Roberts, David Long, Kelly Jones, Roscoe Brixey, Pete Tuttle, Victor Tuttle and a guest from Troop 55, Drew Braden. Adults who skied were: Pat Deaver; Rod Zinn, troop chair; Ralena McCurdy, co-activities chair; and Jason Wingerson, assistant scoutmaster. Other adults who attended were: Wayne Deaver, scoutmaster; David Berkowitz, assistant scoutmaster; Mike McCurdy, activities chair; Tim Cosgrove, training chair; Myra Cosgrove, troop treasurer; Glen Sharpe, past scoutmaster; and Mark Reiske.
