Cody Fordemwalt has joined the U.S. Army under the Delayed Entry program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.
The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty.
Fordemwalt, a 2001 graduate of Baldwin High School, will report to Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C., for basic training. He is the son of Myrna Arnote, Baldwin, and Robert Fordemwalt, Kansas City, Mo.
Staff Sgt. Mike Stretton, Berryton, completed a one day Unit Public Affairs Representative class on Jan. 5, given by Lt. Col. Joy D. Moser at the Ottawa Kansas Army National Guard armory.
Stretton, a full-time administrative technician, is assigned to Detachment 1, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery in Lawrence.
2nd Lt. Shawn Miller, Lawrence, attended Unit Public Affairs Representative training Jan. 5 at the Ottawa Kansas Army National Guard armory.
Miller, a graduate student at Kansas University, teaches and coaches at Tonganoxie Junior High. He has been a member of the National Guard for six years and serves as a platoon leader for Battery B, 1st Battalion, 127th Field Artillery, Lenexa.
