She was born June 11, 1921, in Concordia, the daughter of Berlie and Lena (Cyr) Cables. She was a 1939 graduate of Concordia High School.
Mrs. Carlson lived in Lawrence from 1959 to 2000. She worked in the accounting department at Kansas Union Bookstore for 17 years.
She married Paul Foster in 1941. They later divorced. She married Swen E. Carlson in 1959. They later divorced.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen Foster, Ozawkie, and John Foster, Topeka; a daughter, Catherine Crawford, Great Falls, Mont.; a brother, James Cables, Lake Tahoe, Nev.; a sister, Barbara Forsberg, Bordentown, N.J.; and three grandsons.
