Kenneth Pfunder and Annette Nowland were married Jan. 17, 1942, in Kansas City, Kan.

The couple met in high school. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, then returned to Kansas City and began his career with Ford Motor Co. They moved to Dodge City during the 1951 flood in eastern Kansas. Kenneth retired in 1982 as general manager of Standish Ford, Lincoln, Mercury in Great Bend.

Annette worked at the U.S. Weather Bureau in Kansas City during World War II, then as a bookkeeper in Great Bend and Hoisington until 1980. The couple moved in 1987 to Lawrence, where Ken worked with Kansas University students at the Jayhawk Bookstore, then Meadowbrook Apartments until 1999.

They reside in rural Douglas County and attend Stony Point Christian Church in Kansas City, Kan.

The couple's children are Jim and Sandra Denney, rural Douglas County; and the late Larry Dean Pfunder.

They have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
