Highlights of Thursday's activities at the Kansas Legislature:
About 100 legislators traveled to Manhattan to hear presentations on proposed research centers at Kansas State University, the Kansas University and Wichita State University.
U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts told the legislators in Manhattan that the state cannot afford to forgo investing in research.
The Senate Ways and Means Committee scheduled budget hearings next week.
The House Redistricting Committee said it would conduct hearings Tuesday.
