To the editor:

The money from Big Tobacco is not being spent on prevention in Kansas. It is being spent on state pork. The money from the tobacco settlement was promised by Kansas and other states to be spent on prevention.

I strongly believe even the taxes from alcohol and cigarettes should be used to prevent cigarette use and alcohol abuse. A citizen should be able to go to the county health department and receive the patch or gum and support to help quit smoking. The taxes from alcohol can be used for prevention and treatment of alcoholism. Individuals should be able to get free cab rides home from any place they have been drinking so they don't drive. This only happens once a year usually during New Year's Eve. DUIs occur 365 days a year.
