— She was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Cheney, the daughter of Charles O. and Viola E. (Charter) Gatlin. She had recently moved to Ulysses from Garden City, where she had been a resident since 1930, moving there from Reno County.

Mrs. Montney was a homemaker.

She married Vern I. Montney on July 12, 1944, in Garden City. He died Sept. 19, 1992.

Survivors include five sons, Gordon, Lawrence, Wayne, Springfield, Ill., Gerald, Colorado Springs, Colo., Timothy, Birmingham, Ala., and Rodney, Topeka; three daughters, Edith Oxford, Ulysses, Virginia Hammersmith, Lawrence, and Susan Purcell, Satanta; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 6 p.m. today at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Mary Catholic Church.

The family suggests memorials to St. Mary School Endowment Fund, sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main, Garden City 67846.
