— Lawrence High's girls basketball team outscored Olathe North 31-16 in the final quarter in a narrow 58-57 loss on Thursday night.

Cherrale Ricks scored 20 points and grabbed 10 boards, while Josie Polk scored 17 for LHS, 3-8. The duo combined for 23 points in the fourth quarter as LHS nearly won despite losing Mandy Amyx to a high ankle sprain in the second quarter.

"I am pleased with the heart and effort they showed. With the adversity, they could have buckled," LHS coach Kristin Mallory said after the Lions' fifth straight loss.

Leigh DeBiasse missed the game because of a sprained wrist.

"We chipped away the whole (fourth) quarter. We continued to fight back," Mallory said. "We showed so much heart. Eventually it'll turn around for us."
