College Station, Texas Laurie Koehn's teammates knew she would come through for No. 9 Kansas State.
She didn't disappoint Wednesday night, hitting five three-pointers and then making an important free throw in the final seconds as the Wildcats defeated Texas A&M 66-61 to remain undefeated in the Big 12.
"There's not usually a night when Laurie's not on," Nicole Ohlde said about Koehn's 10 second-half points. "We know Laurie is going to always come through."
Ohlde led a trio of hot shooters with 17 points. Koehn, the leading three-pointer shooter in the NCAA, added 16.
Her biggest contribution came from an intentional foul that sent her to the line in the final seconds for the Wildcats, who won their 14th straight game.
Koehn made the second of two free throws and Kansas State got the ball back, cooling off any chance for a comeback by the Aggies.
Koehn and Kristin Rethman combined for nine of the final 11 points for Kansas State (17-1, 7-0 Big 12). Kendra Wecker had 16 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out.
Meg Banahan's game leading 26 points was not enough to help A&M (10-6, 2-2).
"At times Banahan was the Texas A&M offense while we sputtered for the majority of the night," Kansas State coach Deb Patterson said. "I thought our basketball team played extremely tight. Probably the first time all year I've had a sense that even from the get-go we played a little bit not to lose. We were just much more tentative tonight than I've seen."
No. 12 Texas 77, Oklahoma State 64
Stillwater, Okla. Heather Schreiber scored 16 points, and Texas used a surge late in the first half to beat Oklahoma State. The Longhorns (13-2, 5-0 Big 12) won their sixth straight game, setting up a showdown Saturday at No. 3 Oklahoma.
No. 15 Texas Tech 83, No. 13 Baylor 63
Lubbock, Texas Jia Perkins scored 20 points, and Texas Tech's big halftime lead was enough to withstand a late surge by Baylor. Tech (10-5, 2-3 Big 12) led 48-26 at the break, and extended its advantage to 30 points. But Baylor got within 15 in the final seven minutes when Sheila Lambert scored nine of her 24 points in a 23-6 spurt.
No. 21 Virginia Tech 67, West Virginia 62
Blacksburg, Va. Chrystal Starling scored 19 points as Virginia Tech remained unbeaten in the Big East.
