Law enforcement report
Burglaries and thefts reported
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating vandalism of a 1999 Nissan sedan parked Saturday and Sunday along the shoulder of U.S. Highways 24-40 near Airport Road. The car, which had a flat tire, belongs to a Lansing man. Someone knocked out all of the car's windows and damaged the body. Damage was estimated at $12,000.
The rear door of a shop building in the 1700 section of North 900 Road, rural Baldwin, was forced open sometime between Jan. 8 and Saturday, a Douglas County Sheriff's report said. Taken from the shop was a model airplane, a model airplane starter and tools valued at a total of $1,530. The incident was reported by a 59-year-old man who lived at the same address.
Police reports
Two female Kansas University students told Lawrence Police that a man left a threatening message on their answering machine Tuesday night. The women one 19, the other 20 reported receiving a call about 10 p.m. at their home in the 200 block of Mt. Hope Court from an unidentified man, who asked the women how old they were and if their mommies were home, Police Sgt. Paul Fellers said. The women hung up, but the man called back minutes later asking for a person who didn't live at the house and refusing to tell the women who he was. The women said they'd call police if the man called again, Fellers said. Several minutes later, the man called back and left a message on the machine that said Osama bin Laden was going to blow up the house.
