Tecumseh Graveside services for Merlin G. Ewing, 74, Tecumseh, formerly of Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bethel Cemetery, southwest of Topeka, with military honors by Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Ewing died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center, Topeka.

He was born Jan. 6, 1928, south of Sabetha, the son of Earl and Lela (Brimm) Ewing.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Italy, Sicily and North Africa. He moved to the Topeka and Tecumseh area in 1945. He spent more than 20 years as a pawnbroker before he retired in 1992.

Mr. Ewing was a longtime member of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the VFW.

He married Margaret Frakes on Dec. 24, 1947, in Topeka. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Larry and Steve, both of Tecumseh; two daughters, Lola Ryal, New Orleans, and Glenda Logan, Topeka; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel, Topeka.
