She was born Aug. 17, 1906, in Penokee to Carl and Elma (Paxson) Kobler. She graduated from Fort Hays State University.
She married W.W. "Wally" Steeples on Dec. 24, 1926. He died July 29, 1966.
Mrs. Steeples lived in Holton, Hill City and Palco before she moved in 1981 to Stockton. She taught school in Palco and Bogue for 17 years.
She moved in 1996 to Hays.
Mrs. Steeples was a member of First United Methodist Church, Stockton, and attended First Presbyterian Church, Hays. She was a member of Pleasant Hour Club, Palco, Eastern Star, Plainville, Delta Kappa Gamma professional sorority and Sigma Sigma Sigma social sorority.
Survivors include two sons, Don Steeples, Lawrence, and David Steeples, Stockton; three daughters, Jean Webb, Tulsa, Okla., Joanne Haslett, Tucson, Ariz., and Lois Settles, Athens, Ga.; a brother, Raymond Kobler, Hays; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
