Valley Falls Graveside services for Harold Eugene Stafford, 81, Eudora, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Valley Falls Cemetery.

Mr. Stafford died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He lived in Eudora for the past 30 years.

He was born March 17, 1920, in Valley Falls, the son of John Melvin and Margaret Jessie (McCoy) Stafford.

Mr. Stafford was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy in the South Pacific.

He was a toll collector for Kansas Turnpike Authority for 15 years until his retirement April 16, 1998. He was also a longtime salesman in the Lawrence area.

Mr. Stafford was a member of Valley Falls United Methodist Church.

He married June (Pettis) Staples on June 5, 1971, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Sherrill Jean Grinter, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three stepsons, James C. Staples, Thomas L. Staples and Charles H. Staples, all of Tonganoxie; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
