To the editor:
I address this to all the critics of the Lawrence Transit System. When I applied for my last driver's license, I barely squeaked by the eye examination. Still I was given the legal permission to drive for another five years. I didn't. My husband's slowed reactions and diminished peripheral vision made him no longer a skilled driver. As soon as the bus system was in operation and we qualified for the T Lift, we sold our car.
Thanks to the transportation, we can make doctor's appointments, buy our groceries, go to the barber shop and beauty parlor, etc. Whether you are a pedestrian, cyclist, driver or passenger in a private vehicle, you are safer now because we, and people with comparable circumstances, are on the bus.
Finally, my friends, you may someday find yourself in need of this service. I hope it is there for you.
Betty Mole,
Lawrence
