Private family services for Robert Scott Raymond, 89, Lawrence, will be at a later date. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Raymond died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

He was born Oct. 10, 1912, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Robert Scott and Inez (Logan) Raymond.

Mr. Raymond lived in Lawrence since 1980, moving from Athens, Ohio, where he had lived for 22 years.

He graduated from Kansas University in 1934, studied at London School of Economics from 1947 to 1948, received his master's degree from Kansas University in 1951 and his doctorate from Ohio State University, Athens, Ohio, in 1953.

He went to France in 1940 with the American Volunteer Ambulance Corps and then to England, where he joined the Royal Air Force. He became a pilot in the Bomber Command. In June 1943, he was transferred to the U.S. Army Air Force and served as a pilot and technical instructor until September 1945. He was awarded the British Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mr. Raymond was employed at Raymond Furniture Store in Kansas City, Mo. He then taught business at the New Mexico College of Agriculture & Mechanic Arts from 1948 to 1950. He taught at Washington State University, Pullman, Wash., in 1951 and 1952. From 1953 to 1955, he taught at Pennsylvania State University, State College, Penn., then at Ohio State University, retiring in 1978. During his tenure at Ohio State, he was a Fulbright Lecturer in Spain in 1960 and 1961 at the universities of Valladolid (Bilbao) and Madrid. He spent a sabbatical year in England from 1967 to 1968, teaching business administration courses at the universities of Liverpool and Sheffield.

After retiring in 1978, he was a visiting professor at Northeast Missouri State University, now known as Truman State University, in Kirksville, Mo., for one year, then at Wichita State University for one year and at Washburn University, Topeka, for two years. After moving to Lawrence, where he was a member of the Service Corps of Retired Executives, he taught as a volunteer in the literacy program.

He married Elizabeth Raymond on Dec. 29, 1943, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a brother, T. L., Palm Harbor, Fla.; and a sister, Nadine Lewis, Pacific Grove, Calif.
