Bottom Line

County commissioners will have to decide whether to allow an 18,000-gallon propane tank for Capital City Oil to be located at the intersection of North 1800 and East 800 roads. The tank would serve as a satellite filling station for company trucks, but neighbors in the area have filed a petition protesting the conditional-use permit. Because of the petition, approval of the request requires a unanimous vote.

Background

Planning commissioners in December recommended approval of the permit on an 8-1 vote. Planning staffers also are recommending approval of the permit, but they want it reviewed in 2007 in case the area surrounding the tank develops as a residential area. Seven property owners in the area signed the petition, citing the concern of an explosion and possible evacuations that could be caused by the tank.
