Lubbock, Texas T.J. Ford and James Thomas combined for four free throws in the final 23 seconds Monday night to give Texas a 74-71 overtime victory over Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders had one last attempt to win. With less then seven seconds left, Marcus Shropshire, a good 3-point bet for Tech, got the ball at the top of the key but his shot bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded.
Ford, Thomas and Brandon Mouton each scored 18 points for the Longhorns (12-4, 3-0 Big 12). Thomas had a double double, pulling down 12 rebounds for Texas, and Royal Ivey added 14 points
The Longhorns pulled ahead midway in the second half after holding the Red Raiders scoreless for almost five minutes and going on a 17-4 run.
But Tech fought back and led by one with less than a minute to play when Kasib Powell made a free throw.
Andy Ellis scored 23 points and Andre Emmett added 21 for Tech.
