Bottom Line

County commissioners will elect a new leader for the commission at their meeting today. Commissioners will choose one of themselves to serve as the commission's chair. Currently Bob Johnson is completing his first year as chair of the commission.

Background

The chairman's duties basically are limited to running commission meetings. In the past, the commission has rotated the position among members of the majority political party. Republicans currently are the majority on the three-member commission, which means Jere McElhaney would be next line for the chair, if commissioners follow past practices.
