Reconsideration: Attorney general wants new look at sex-crime cases
Kansas Atty. Gen. Carla Stovall will ask for a reconsideration on rulings to vacate the sentences of two men convicted of sex crimes against their children.
Wednesday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th District vacated sentences meted to Steven D. Beem and Donald Henson Jr.
Beem was convicted in 1989 in Reno County District Court on one count of indecent liberties with a child and one count of aggravated assault. In 1992 Henson was convicted in Miami County District Court of three counts of rape. The Court of Appeals determined he should have been convicted of aggravated incest instead of rape, and remanded the case back to district court for resentencing.

Law enforcement: Baldwin City Council upholds police disciplinary action
Baldwin After much discussion this week, the Baldwin City Council has agreed to uphold the disciplinary action against members of the city's police department.
Baldwin Mayor Ken Hayes said Friday the council's decision was unanimous to uphold the disciplinary action taken last month by City Administrator Larry Paine. However, Hayes declined to comment much more on the matter.
"We cannot release the details of per action per individual," he said.
The Baldwin City Council met in a closed session for several hours Monday and Wednesday nights to hear and discuss appeals for the city's police officers. The police were notified of the council's decision late Thursday.
In December, three officers and Chief Steve Butell were given suspensions, and two other officers received verbal reprimands. The officers later appealed the disciplinary process.
