Spokane, Wash. Dan Dickau scored 29 points, and No. 18 Gonzaga survived a furious second-half comeback and a career-high 38 points by Steve Ross to beat Santa Clara, 83-81, Friday night for its 11th straight victory.
Ross had 22 points in the second half for the Broncos (5-9, 0-1 West Coast), who lost for the first time in five games. Gonzaga (14-2, 1-0), is off to its best start since 1966-67.
Trailing by 12 points at halftime, Santa Clara mounted a strong comeback in the second half.
Blake Stepp sank three of four free-throw attempts in the final minute to protect Gonzaga's lead.
