Tampa, Fla. Steve Spurrier is expected to meet with representatives from the Washington Redskins this weekend, the second team to huddle with the former University of Florida coach since his stunning resignation last Friday.
According to sources, Redskins vice president of football operations Pepper Rodgers was to lead a party of team representatives to Gainesville, possibly with billionaire owner Daniel Snyder. Rodgers the former Kansas coach and Spurrier have remained close since working together on Rodgers' staff at Georgia Tech in 1978.
Snyder is contemplating firing coach Marty Schottenheimer, who went 8-8 in 2001 and has three years remaining on a four-year, $10 million contract that gives him total control of football operations. If Snyder can land Spurrier, then Schottenheimer reportedly will be fired.
