Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, had a cake auction at its Dec. 19 meeting. Marlena Durflinger and Mike Taylor were the adults in charge of the program. With the assistance of one parent, each cub baked a cake. The cakes were then auctioned off in a silent auction.
The following prizes were awarded: most traditional, Damon Stephens; funniest, Joseph Vannicola; best use of chocolate, Tyler Gibson; best use of fruit or candy, Mason Robinson; and most original, Austin Holladay.
Tamegonit Lodge No. 147 of the Heart of American Council had its Winter Banquet Jan. 5 at the Kansas City Downtown Marriott Hotel.
Victor Tuttle of Boy Scout Troop 52 was formally installed as Lodge Chief.
Chapter Two (Pelathe District) Chief Brandon McGuire of Troop 61 and Vice Chiefs Jason Russell of Troop 61 and Will Sharp of Troop 52 were formally installed. Mike O'Connor of Troop 61 was introduced as the new adult adviser for the chapter.
Herb Tuttle, chaplain of Troop 52 and adviser to Venture Crew 2691, was awarded the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow the highest rank that an Arrowman can receive. It is awarded with the written approval of the National Order of the Arrow Committee. Jason Russell and Kelsey Mullis of Troop 61 were awarded the Brown Hawk Society Coop for 2001. More than 700 people attended.
Allen Wiechert has retired as Pelathe District advancement chair, a position he has had since 1988.
During that time, he has kept records on 328 Eagle Scout applications of which 289 received the rank of Eagle. He has been the Master of Ceremonies for 14 Eagle Scout Recognition Banquets. Wiechert has earned the following adult awards: Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, St. George Award and Silver Wreath Award.
Wiechert will continue in the scouting movement as the representative for Pelathe District in the National Eagle Scout Assn.
