Army Pvt. Chase Wood has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.

Wood received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions.

During infantry training, he developed basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and he experienced using various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Wood is the son of Kim and Ron Wood, Baldwin. He is a 2001 graduate of Baldwin High School.



Army Reserve Pvt. Ruth Brown has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Brown received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid, and Army values, principles, and traditions.

Brown is the daughter of Belinda Brown, Wellsville. She is a 1999 Wellsville High School graduate.



Air Force Senior Airman Kelly Crouse has graduated from Airman Leadership School at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, N.M.

During the five-week course, Crouse was trained to understand his position in the Air Force organizational structure, leadership, communications skills and profession of arms, which are needed for professional development to be effective noncommissioned officers.

The course is designed to prepare and better equip senior airmen to serve as supervisors, managers and rating officials as they progress in their enlisted military careers. The school is the first of three levels of professional military education programs used to develop and cultivate leadership and supervisory skills, and it is a required course for airmen to complete prior to being promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.

Crouse is a tactical aircraft maintenance crew chief assigned to the 523 Fighter Squadron at Cannon Air Force Base. The senior airman has served in the military for nine years.

He is the son of Daniel and Barbara Crouse, McLouth. The senior airman is a 1992 graduate of McLouth High School.



Air Force Airman 1st Class Jacob Clearwater recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

During the six weeks of training, Clearwater studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs; performed drill and ceremony marches and received physical training and special training in human relations.

Clearwater is the son of Pamela Barnett, Lawrence.



Army Pvt. Dustin Patterson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Patterson received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid, and Army values, principles, and traditions.

Patterson is the son of Mike Patterson, Eudora. He is a 2001 Lawrence High School graduate.



Air Force Capt. Todd Diel has arrived for duty at Osan Air Base in South Korea.

Diel is a space operations integration chief assigned to the 607th Air Operations Group Weapons and Tactics Squadron.

He is the son of Shirley Diel, Lawrence. He is a 1986 graduate of Lawrence High School.
