He was born June 14, 1907, in Stilwell Indian Territory, Okla., the son of Jason and Bertha (Renshaw) Finch. He attended school in Stilwell, Okla., graduating from high school in 1924.
After graduation, he worked as a clerk in the post office until the fall of 1925, when he accepted a football scholarship to Northeastern State Teacher's College, Tahlequah, Okla. In 1926, he left college to work at a warehouse for Continental Oil Co., and in 1928, was transferred to Muskogee, Okla. In 1929, he moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he worked at Hardman Master Cleaners. In 1960, he became owner of the business, which he sold in 1976. He then escorted tours from April to January with his wife for a travel agency from 1977 to 1995. He moved to Lawrence in 1995.
Mr. Finch and his wife were very active at Boston Avenue Methodist Church, Tulsa, where he was the leader of the seventh-grade boys' Sunday School group. At First United Methodist Church, Lawrence, he volunteered in the office and participated in the Chronic and Seriously Ill Support Group that meets at the church. He was also a volunteer at Audio-Reader at Kansas University.
He was a member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church, Tulsa Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Lodge and York Rite Lodge, all in Tulsa. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church, Lawrence.
He married Dollie Mae Smith in 1929. She died in 1985.
Survivors include three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Wanda Gene Elmore, died in 1961.
The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
