Campaign finance reports filed Thursday show one Douglas County commissioner already has started raising funds for his re-election campaign, and several state legislators have healthy war chests.
During 2001 County Commissioner Charles Jones raised $1,110, most of it coming in the last month of the year after he announced he would seek a second term on the commission.
Among Douglas County legislators, Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, has the largest campaign fund with $72,614. Sloan raised $10,371 during 2001 and had the rest left over from previous campaigns. Sen. Sandy Praeger, R-Lawrence, has campaign finances of $24,503 after raising $3,123 during the year.
Praeger also was the biggest spender of area lawmakers, spending $20,405, with some of the money being transferred to her campaign for state insurance commissioner.
Rep. Barbara Ballard, D-Lawrence, raised $1,407 and now has $9,665 in her account; Rep. Troy Findley, D-Lawrence, raised $6,708 and has a balance of $10,295; Rep. Ralph Tanner, R-Lawrence, raised $1,891 and has $12,080.
All state representative are up for re-election in 2002.
