Olathe A routine traffic stop turned into a major drug bust when police found cocaine valued at $3 million hidden in a pickup truck.
Olathe police discovered 264 pounds of cocaine hidden in a truck that was stopped after making an improper lane change Saturday on Interstate 35 in Olathe.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents allowed the drugs to be delivered Monday in northern Illinois while they watched. A DEA spokeswoman declined Wednesday to say whether any arrests were made when the drugs were delivered.
Olathe Police Officer Eric Yahn stopped the truck and became suspicious when the driver gave confusing answers to the officer's questions, said Lt. Frank Galbrecht.
Eventually the officer called for a drug-sniffing dog, which found the cocaine wrapped in 120 packages hidden in a false compartment.
The unidentified 47-year-old driver is in custody in Illinois.
