He was born April 23, 1984, in Portland, Ore., the son of Jason A. Marks and Joanne Hossack. He later moved to Salem, Ore., where he attended McKinley Elementary School. In 1994, Patrick moved to Lawrence, where he attended Deerfield School, West Junior High and Lawrence Free State High School.
Patrick was a gifted student who participated in Duke University's Talent Identification Program twice and was active in debate and forensics in high school. He was a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.
Survivors include his mother, of the home; his father, Albuquerque, N.M.; his stepmother, Maxine Roush, Albuquerque; a sister, Niki Hossack, of the home; and a brother, Levi, of the home.
The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
