New York Ozzie Smith learned just how much his Hall of Fame status meant once he got to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
Arriving at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in a wet, wintry mess, Smith tried to check in. But the front desk had no reservation listed not for Smith, not for the Wizard of Oz, not for the newest member of Cooperstown and the hotel was sold out.
"How soon they forget," Smith kidded.
"I finally make it to the Waldorf and they have no room for me," he said. "They said my life was going to change, and I'm not sure it's for the better."
