Kansas University senior guard Jeff Boschee was upset with himself following the No. 1-ranked Jayhawks' 96-57 drubbing of Nebraska.
It's not that he played poorly against the Cornhuskers Boschee finished with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-8 three-point shooting or even that the team struggled. KU handed the Huskers their worst loss of the season.
KU coach Roy Williams, left, talks with his starters. Williams pulled his starting five early in the second half after a slow start Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse.
No, Boschee was bummed he didn't hit more three-pointers last weekend against Colorado so he could have become KU's all-time leading three-point shooter Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
"I try not to think about it too much," Boschee said of the record after pulling within three of former Jayhawk Billy Thomas' all-time mark of 269 treys. "I wish I would have had a little better game at Colorado so I would have had a chance to break it at home. The way it looks now, I'll probably break it on the road, hopefully, if everything falls into place. But other than that I haven't really thought about it too much."
All was not lost, though. Boschee has attempted more three-pointers (695) than anyone in Kansas history much to the chagrin of his coach.
"I told him before the season one of his goals ought to be to break the made record before the attempts record. He was close," KU coach Roy Williams said. "At one point I tried to find out how many he had. I was wondering if I should leave him in. I wanted him to make a couple more Saturday at Colorado to break the record at home. It's going to come. He's had four great years and had a lot of baskets.
"Every time he gets it cocked, I think he's going to make it."
Boschee wasn't the least bit bitter about not having a chance to eclipse the record late in the 39-point rout.
"No, it's not that important," he said with a smile. "We were killing them. That would be pretty pointless for coach to put me in for something like that."

KU's three-point snipers were the reason the game was out of reach by halftime, with the Jayhawks comfortably ahead 57-24.
KU junior guard Kirk Hinrich drilled a three to open the scoring 12 seconds in. After trading baskets, the Jayhawks unleashed a 20-0 run to build a back-breaking 25-4 advantage.
The lead quickly became 31-6 as the Jayhawks knocked down their first six three-point attempts with Hinrich hitting three, Boschee two and freshman guard Keith Langford who had been 2-of-12 coming into the game connecting.
"We were making shots left and right," Boschee said. "Kirk came out and hit three or four shots right in a row, I made a couple of three-pointers there and everything just kind of developed from there and the crowd was into it.
"It was a fun game to play in."
It was so much fun, junior forward Nick Collison showed off some moves, going coast-to-coast for a highlight-reel dunk following his steal.
"It felt like a high school game almost," KU junior forward Drew Gooden said. "That's what Nick told me. Nick said it felt like he was in high school and he put on a show in the first half. You've got to give it to our guards in the first half. They were knocking down the treyball."
With the Jayhawks having their way outside, things opened up inside for the big men. Collison and Gooden combined for 36 points on 14-of-24 shooting and added 25 rebounds.
Kansas was red-hot from outside early, hitting 13 of its first 16 shots.
"It was big," Gooden said of the outside shooting, "especially tonight because they were double- and triple-teaming me and Nick. We were kicking the ball out and they were knocking down the open three."
Kansas will have to continue its sizzling shooting during the next three games, as it will travel to face No. 11 UCLA and No. 6 Oklahoma State before returning home to play host to No. 5 Oklahoma.
KU will take on the Bruins at 2 p.m. Saturday in Los Angeles.
