Kansas City, Mo Realignment of the NFL divisions will cause some changes in the Kansas City Chiefs' schedule next season, but some familiar opponents remain.
The Chiefs will play host to the St. Louis Rams twice, once in preseason and once during the regular season. Other playoff teams from this season that the Chiefs will face include Oakland, Miami, New England, San Francisco and the New York Jets. Exact days and times have not been determined. In the NFL's new scheduling format, each division team will play 14 common opponents. Oakland, Denver and San Diego remain in the AFC West and will play a home-and-home series with Kansas City each season. The AFC West also will play four games against the AFC East and four games against the NFC West.

The Chiefs will travel to Cleveland for the first time since 1995 because of the Browns' third-place finish in the newly-formed AFC North. Kansas City will entertain Jacksonville for the first time in regular-season play due to the Jaguars' third-place finish in the newly-formed AFC South.
Although Seattle has moved to the NFC West, the Chiefs will play the Seahawks next season at Seattle. The remainder of the Chiefs' 2002 regular season schedule features home games against Buffalo and Arizona.
