— Kansas University's women's basketball team will be trying to avoid an ignominious start to the Big 12 season.

The Jayhawks (5-10 overall, 0-2 Big 12) have never started a season with three conference losses, but to avoid that bit of unsavory school history they'll have to overcome 12th-ranked Baylor (12-1, 0-1) at the Bears' Ferrell Center tonight.

Tipoff is 7 p.m.

KU, which has played four of its last five on the road and had just one home game in a 26-day stretch, is coming off a 58-51 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse. Baylor is coming off its first loss of a season, an 89-79 setback at Kansas State on Saturday.

The Bears are led by Sheila Lambert, a 5-foot-7 senior guard who averages 18.1 points, 5.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game. Danielle Crockrom, a 6-2 senior forward, adds 16.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Seniors Selena Scott (12.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg) and KC Hilgenkamp (12.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg) lead the Jayhawks, who are 6-3 all-time against Baylor.

The Bears lead the Big 12 in scoring defense (57.9 ppg), scoring margin (plus-21.3), field-goal percentage defense (33.2), rebounding offense (47.3) and assists (19.23).

Baylor won last year's meeting with Kansas, 85-80, at Allen Fieldhouse. Lambert scored 37 points in that game, the third most points ever scored by a KU opponent.
