Connecticut emerged from an surprising week as the nation's only unbeaten team and was a unanimous No. 1 choice Monday in the Associated Press women's basketball poll.
UConn (16-0) received all 44 first-place votes from a national media panel after a convincing 86-72 victory at Tennessee, which lost for the first time but held on at No. 2. Oklahoma remained third.
Kansas State dealt losses to Iowa State and Baylor and joined the rankings at No. 14 the highest debut during the season since the poll was expanded from 20 to 25 teams in 1989. Poll on page 6C.
